FREE MEDICAL CAMP WITH FREE MEDICINE DISTRIBUTION AT L PLOT, SUNDARBANS

AIM Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Forest, Government of West Bengal, organised a medical camp at Sridharnagar Abaitanik Prathomik Vidyalaya on L Plot Island in the remote Sundarbans region of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Located in a challenging and isolated part of the Sundarbans, the journey to the venue itself underscores the difficulty residents face in accessing essential healthcare services. Reaching L Plot Island requires a three-hour drive from Kolkata followed by an over two-hour boat journey, which limits the community’s access to regular medical facilities.

The camp was set up to bridge this healthcare gap, providing basic and urgent medical services to residents who seldom receive consistent medical attention. A skilled medical team, including doctors, nurses, and volunteers, conducted a range of health assessments, addressing both immediate needs and preventive care. Residents of this remote forest village face unique health challenges due to the harsh environment, including waterborne illnesses, malnutrition, and respiratory infections, which are exacerbated by limited access to healthcare.

Throughout the day, community members of all ages attended the camp to receive check-ups, medications, and health guidance. The medical team focused on educating the locals on hygiene, nutrition, and basic preventive health practices, aiming to empower them to better manage health issues in this isolated setting. Medicines were distributed at no cost, and referrals were provided for patients needing further care.

This outreach program by AIM Foundation, with support from the Department of Forest, highlights the organization’s dedication to improving healthcare access in the Sundarbans. The initiative not only provided immediate relief but also reinforced the Foundation’s commitment to the long-term health and well-being of the region's remote communities.
